Smoke and Heat Detectors are often installed throughout a building. They are designed to give very early warning in the event of smoke or fire. Detectors are often installed in roof spaces, floor spaces and air handling systems and are usually connected to the Fire Indicator Panel (FIP) if installed. Detectors that have been activated will have a solid red light that does not flash.
Note: In some cases, smoke detectors may be local alarms only and not connected to an alarm panel or the fire service response.
