Under OH&S requirements, the wardens nominated within the Emergency Management Team (EMT) have full authority during an emergency incident. This authority overrides all levels of management during an emergency and until the emergency is over and the all clear is given.

Directives given to all staff by wardens during an emergency become an OH&S directive by the organisation. All staff members are required to respond to and follow directives as given. Staff are also required to ensure their own safety and the safety of others during an emergency evacuation or emergency incident. Anyone found to disobey a directive from a warden during an emergency will be in breach of the employee requirements under the OH&S act.
