Emergency Warning and Intercom Systems

Emergency Warning and Intercom Systems (EWIS) are often installed as a secondary panel located next to or near the FIP. The EWIS panel operates alert tones (the Beep, Beep, Beep sound) and evacuation tones (the Whoop, Whoop, Whoop sound). This panel also houses (if installed) the Red Phone Intercom System and the Public Announcement (PA) System. This phone-type intercom system allows quick communication between wardens from the FIP to selected red phones installed throughout the building. This can be a vital communication tool for staff from the affected/fire area to the chief warden at the FIP.

Note: On the activation of the alert tones (Beep, Beep, Beep) all staff should stop what they are doing and be on standby to respond to the directions given by the floor/area warden. On the activation of the evacuation tones (Whoop, Whoop, Whoop), staff should begin to evacuate to the nominated evacuation area as directed by the floor/area warden.
