Emergency Lighting

Emergency Lighting may be installed throughout the building to operate during an electrical failure or blackout. If installed, the emergency lighting is powered by a battery backup which will generally provide minimum lighting for safety of all occupants for approximately 60-90 minutes. The lights should be tested on a regular basis to ensure they are working correctly.

Note: Emergency lighting will cease to work after approximately 60-90 minutes; when the battery runs out. Some buildings have their own generators to maintain power. As soon as the power is disrupted in the workplace, wardens or general staff are to ensure torches with spare batteries are available to use when the emergency lighting fails.
